SUP and SUP Yoga HK
Learn to Stand Up Paddle
If you have never paddled before, we will teach you the fundamentals of SUP safety and technique, so you can have the confidence to do it yourself the next time you rent a board.
If you know how to SUP but want to improve, we can help you tweak your technique to help you go faster, get more stable and recruit the right muscles.
Practice Stand Up Paddle Yoga
Whether you’re new to yoga or an experienced yogi, we will take you out of the studio to practice in nature. Let the sound of the sea under the board relax you. Enjoy new challenges as the gentle motion of the ocean hones your sense of balance, and learn new poses designed just for the board.
Island Paddle HK was founded by fitness and ocean enthusiast couple, Esther Bland and Niall Westley with the aim of sharing their love of watersports.
Having lived and grown up in Hong Kong, they learned that while Hong Kong waters have so much to offer, safety and quality instruction is sometimes lacking.
Over the years, they witnessed friends get into trouble while swimming or paddling because they weren’t equipped with the right knowledge and didn’t know how to check their gear.
They started Island Paddle to give people the confidence to paddle safely whether hiring a board or buying their own. They hope to give people the knowledge to assess conditions, paddle with the right technique, and most importantly learn to respect and enjoy the ocean.
We offer private one-on-one lessons, small group classes of up to four, and for special occasions we can cater for up to 20 people. Lessons and tours are 90-minutes and take place in Stanley Bay.

“Esther makes SUP so fun and easy I hardly noticed I was working out! And the stunning views across Stanley are bliss. I also learnt handy techniques like how to turn efficiently and rest my legs.”
“This experience by far exceeded my expectations. I ended up meeting wonderful people, having a very cool water tour of Stanley, and learning a lot about both SUP and Hong Kong. Niall was my instructor for the class, and I learned a whole lot about paddle boarding. As an avid paddle sport athlete, Niall taught me about the other sports he’s involved in, including kayaking and Dragonboat racing. He and Esther have thought of every detail to give an incredibly rewarding experience (think restaurant recomendations, history of the beach, shower and towels, and refreshing drinks)! Highest recommendation.”
"Thank you for a wonderful balanced training, an incredible blend of being a lot of fun and a great work out. Incorporating Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP) into a personal training session adds a whole new dimension to fitness. From all aspects; the location, the equipment and the professional hands on instruction, the whole experience was amazing. I would not hesitate to recommend Esther and Aquaterra Performance and can’t wait for my next session!”
“We absolutely loved our SUP experience with Niall! It was such a nice break from the hustle of HK city in beautiful Stanley Bay. We'd SUPed before but actually learnt some technique this time. Niall was also super knowledgeable about Hong Kong's history and current affairs, so conversation was really interesting too and we got some great recommendations for our trip. The Aqua Terra Performance studio is really nice as well. Thanks for such a great afternoon!”
“Esther and Niall are some of the nicest and most welcoming hosts I have ever met. My father and I went on to this SUP journey together, and it worked out great. Really appreciate Niall from drawing connections with other sports that my dad is familiar with, such as talking about the connection of the whole body like golfing compared with SUP.”
“Esther's SUP coaching was really useful - even if you've been out before, having someone teach you how to do it properly is great!”
